Leadership Highlights
My career in software engineering spans more than two decades and nearly every stage of the engineering leadership journey.
I began as a software engineer, writing code, solving production issues, and learning firsthand that successful software development is about far more than technology alone. Over time, I progressed through roles as Team Lead, Manager, Senior Manager, Director, and ultimately Senior Director of Software Engineering, leading increasingly larger teams, broader technology portfolios, and more complex organizational challenges.
Each step taught a different lesson.
As an engineer, I learned the importance of craftsmanship and technical excellence.
As a team lead, I learned that delivery is often less about individual talent and more about helping teams work effectively together.
As a manager, I learned that developing people creates far greater leverage than solving problems yourself.
As a director and senior director, I learned that technology decisions are ultimately business decisions, and that leadership, organizational design, and strategy often determine success long before a single line of code is written.
Today, I lead a 50+ person engineering organization spanning six cross-functional teams responsible for the technology portfolio supporting BHG Financial's post-origination lending business. The portfolio includes loan servicing, customer servicing, payment processing, collections, enterprise integrations, data platforms, and operational systems that support critical business functions across the organization.
Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to lead large-scale modernization efforts, build greenfield products, guide organizational transformations, and help engineering organizations adapt to changing technologies and business priorities.
Most recently, I led one of the company's largest technology transformation initiatives, modernizing the core loan servicing platform while maintaining operational continuity across a business-critical portfolio. I also directed the development and launch of NaluPay, a greenfield point-of-sale lending platform designed to support new growth opportunities and customer acquisition channels.
Beyond delivery, a significant portion of my focus is dedicated to building leaders. I believe organizations scale through people, not org charts. Developing strong engineering leaders, creating cultures of accountability, and helping teams navigate change are among the most important responsibilities of any technology executive.
The emergence of AI has reinforced that belief. While technology continues to evolve at an accelerating pace, the challenges of leadership remain remarkably consistent: creating clarity, developing talent, aligning teams around common goals, and helping organizations adapt to change.
That perspective shapes much of the writing on this site. The articles here are reflections on leadership, organizational effectiveness, software delivery, and the evolving role of technology leaders in an industry that is constantly reinventing itself.
